Ban the gassing of pets in Louisiana

Help stop the gassing of shelter pets in the state of Louisiana

Here is my letter that I will be sending to help End Gas Chambers for Shelter Pets in Louisiana Call to Action: Send Messages to Louisiana State Officials on September 1st

Dear Louisiana State Officials,

Like most of the people in our state I care about the pets I have and the homeless pets that end up in our city’s animal control facilities. I would like to see as many of these pets find new homes and leave the shelters alive. But until programs are put into place like low cost and no cost spay and neuter, foster care, offsite adoptions, evening hours, and volunteer programs (to name a few), I also know that the continual flood of animals entering the shelters means that animals will have to be killed.

But if animals are to be killed it should be in the most humane way — euthanasia by injection of sodium pentobarbital, or an alternate oral version of the drug correctly carried out. The use of gas in gas chambers to kill shelter animals needs to end now.

Governments are put into place to be of service to the people and if you did a poll you would find that most people would prefer that the animal control facilities do a much better job of rehoming homeless pets and if they must die then they wish that their deaths be as painless and free of stress as possible.

As a tax payer I do NOT want my tax money spent for needless animal suffering through the use of gas chambers when there is a more humane way. Since lethal injection is the method used in all veterinarians’ offices to end a pet’s life, and is recommended by all national humane organizations in the America as the most humane, least stressful, safest, and most cost effective it should be the only allowable method to kill pets in our state’s animal control system.

As public servants it is the duty of government officials to strongly consider the will of the public in all matters. Note that across America the outcry to do away with the gassing of shelter pets is growing ever louder. I am adding my voice to theirs and ask that you hear me.

I chose to be the voice of the voiceless and beg that the use of gas chambers be outlawed for the state of Louisiana.

“In this country tax-payers spend $1 billion dollars annually to pick up, house, and euthanize homeless animals. If only 5% of that total were allocated to spay/neuter programs, we could open 250 public, low-cost spay/neuter clinics across the country and sterilize more than $4 million animals each year.” – ryannewmanfoundation.org/news

Live Tv Show Shows Gassing Of Dogs

*** PLEASE CROSSPOST ***

NC Governor fails to end gassing of dogs and cas

Clinton supporter North Carolina Governor Mike Easley has failed to request the introduction of legislation which would override the Commissioner of Agriculture’s recent removal of the state’s own board’s recommendation to end the killing of pets by carbon monoxide gas under the excuse that “aggressive dogs are safer to kill by gas.”

Why are they euthanizing instead of gassing?

Most of this country uses injection to euthanize even aggressive dogs, including 67 of North Carolina’s 100 counties, but the Ag. Commissioner’s people appear to be claiming that aggressive dogs in the 37 counties which DO use gas are more vicious than those in the 63 which do not. It is not worth commenting. This kind of false excuses by politicians is what has caused so many voters to not vote.

Watch the video then take action

Dog Gassing Video shows many dogs being loaded and then locked in a small metal box and GASSED to dead in North Carolina’s Public Shelter!

STOP Animal Cruelty, Dog kill box: youtube video

I urge you to watch the dog gassing video and see the gassing being done in Yadkin County and 36 other counties in North C.C. (63 use injectable). Video takes 2-3 minutes to load. This video will be shown tomorrow night 7/10/2008 in NYC on Time Warner Queens Ch. 34 at 8 PM, and in Manhattan, Bronx, Brooklyn, Staten Island and Nassau and Suffolk counties and the Hamptons in Long Island where the movie stars live. It will then go into reruns for many years to come, airing twice every year on all our cable systems.

Our television program, Companionan Animal Network TV is carried by Cablevision, Time Warner, and RCN Cable. Though this video is on our website I had chosen not to watch it until last night, in preparing it to be broadcast on the show.

This Dog Gassing Video shook me to the core! if you refuse to watch the attached video you will not be motivated to do what you would otherwise do and you will be just as much to blame for the continuation of this monstrosity!

Take action: Make phone calls…

After watching the video please CALL N.C. Gov. Easley at 919-733-4240 and 919-733-5811, Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler at 919-733-7125, and Chamber of Commerce Pres Lew Ebert at 919-836-1407 and tell them that you will boycott N.C. goods and will spread the word about the practices of N.C. If Gov. Easley’s office tells you that the Agriculture Commissioner is a separately elected office, tell Mr. Easley that the governor can cause the introduction of state legislation banning gassing.

Animal Laws not enforced

In Georgia, even though a law was passed banning gassing of animals, the State Assenblyman who passed that law has sued the state for refusing to enforce it 10 years after enactment. States which still allow gas must be federally banned from doing so. I have spoken with the attorney doing that law suit. Also, please ask the Democratic and Republican Platform Committees to include a ban on all gas killing of animals. I, for one, an uncommitted voter, have decided to NOT vote for Obama nor McCain unless and until one or the other addresses this issue by agreeing to nationally ban gas killing of animals. I intend to reach both campaigns.

This email needs to be mass distributed nationally, being sent to blogs, other media, yahoogroups. Please forward it to everyone you know. The power of the internet and television to force change has been proven over and over. Please help us end this monstrous practice NOW! If this was happening to you or me every day which passed by would matter. Just think of the southern summer heat inside those kill boxes, with dozens of pets stuffed in them like toys, pinned against one another unable to move even a paw. Just think of the horror, the anguish, the fear, the TERROR !!!
