Hard to believe that people can acquire a puppy and then abuse it by making it live out its life on a chain. Please help educate the children so they will not grow up and do this too.

It is so sad to see dogs living their whole lives on the end of a chain. What are these people thinking? They could not bear to spend a whole day on a chain.
Please teach the children of today so this animal abuse will not continue to go on in our tomorrows.

Dogs need to walk, run, and play without getting jerked at the end of a chain 24/7. They can go crazy and become aggressive, wouldn’t you? If you have a dog it should be like a member of your family and if it is not than you shouldn’t own it. They experience every emotion we do. Sit on a chain for a couple days and see how it feels.

Here is a horror story that shows you just one reason dogs should not be kept chained:
WDSU News Report: 3-Year-Old Killed By Pit Bull; Jul 23, 2008
on Wednesday at the Jackson animal control headquarters. The owner of the dog didn’t violate any city ordinances because the dog was chained and confined to the property, Jones said. Animal…

Chains are not the enemy here. Chains are inanimate objects that are not capable of inflicting pain upon an animal nor are they capable of neglecting an animal. Chains are no worse or no better than an outdoor kennel or indoor crate/kennel.
It makes me angry to see the vigilante b.s. against people who use chains and other tie-outs as a contaiment device. I am one of those people. And my dogs are not abused nor are they neglected. In fact, they most probably live a better life than most of the dogs you’ll ever meet in your lifetime. Dogs need food, water, shelter, exercise, love and attention, and some laidback playtime. What they do not need is $100+ dog beds, personalized ceramic dog bowls, Prada collars, Gucci t-shirts, etc. People need to step back and realize that dogs are dogs. In all actuality, it’s the humanization of dogs that is causing enormous problems in the world today.
And as a vet tech (CVT), I’ve seen numerous cruelty and neglect cases and they actually come from all areas of life. Some fo the dogs were on chains and some were inside pets that were just ignored.
Wake up and realize that HUMANS are the ones abusing and neglecting dogs and they will do so regardless of whether or not the dog is chaind, kenneled, or left loose. It’s at the hands of humans that these animals suffer.
And for the record, Dogs Deserve Better is an organization that promotes trespassing onto people’s property, calling the police on innocent people who use tie-outs as a method of keeping their dogs properly contained, etc. The entire Tammy Grimes situation was disgusting and enough proof exists that they failed to go through the proper channels (they claimed they did things, some facts prove otherwise) and they left out enough details that could present an entirely different situation underneath the cover of lies we were all told.
All in all, if someone is properly caring for their dog and is keeping it contained so that it is not a public nuisance running out into the streets and trespassing onto other people’s property, I don’t see the issue. We have laws already on the books that address the issues of animal cruelty and animal neglect. Let’s quit playing politics in the form of trying to pass feel-good laws and start enforcing the ones we have.

tangi, the chain is not the reason why that little boy was killed. From the sound of it, that dog didn’t deserve to be alive in the first place. This dog was human aggressive. It obviously had very serious issues. And I highly doubt that this dog just “snapped” as all dogs give warning throughout time that it will bite/attack a person. Some people either choose to ignore it or they make excuses for it. Or sadly enough, they like it.
I am horrified that this happened. NO child, or adult for that matter, deserves to be attacked in such a manner. But the chain didn’t do nor did the chain make the dog do it. The dog did and the dog’s owner allowed it. Place the blame where the blame lies.
